2022 Update from Jamestown BPU
The Jamestown Board of Public Utilities (BPU) is placing about 78kW of solar across three of our power plant roofs. A 60kVA inverter will convert that DC power into 480V AC which will feed into a motor control panel inside the power plant to provide nearly 20 percent of the power plant needs. Adding solar to the roof will allow the power plant to calculate emissions limits on pounds of NOx per megawatt hour for compliance with new NOx rules.
Our green energy programs for 2022 include:
The Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Rebate Program for Commercial/Industrial Customers- This program is open to BPU commercial and industrial customers who install electric vehicle chargers that can be used by employees, customers and the public. Customers may apply for rebates of up to four chargers with a limit of $25,000 per year.
The Residential and Commercial Heat Pump Rebate Program
This program provides rebates for the purchase of air source heat pumps and heat pump water heaters. The rebate limit for heat pumps is $5,000 per year per property owner. Before purchase and installation, customers are advised to confirm valid qualifications by contacting our BPU Energy Efficiency Coordinator.
For several years, the Jamestown BPU has designed locally-produced 60-second radio ads to run in our community featuring business and industrial customers speaking about why they enjoy working in Jamestown and how the BPU’s affordable rates and reliable services help their businesses.
Now, as part of a new effort, the BPU has produced ten 90-second videos that soon will be available on our You Tube channel. During on-camera interviews, business and
industrial leaders discuss their businesses and how operating in Jamestown and in BPU territory assists their companies. The videos also appear on tv streaming channels to encourage other people and companies to consider working and living in Jamestown
The BPU’s 2022 Climate Technology Conference in October, 2022, will take place in Jamestown to bring together manufacturers, investors and business leaders with a goal of growing climate technology in the Western Southern Tier of New York State. The event will make local businesses aware of the market opportunity that exists in climate technology; bring in entrepreneurs who might have ideas to grow new business; and investors who see this market as an opportunity.
This event is part of a four-point broader initiative to encourage business growth and development in the climate technology sector in the area.
The other segments include marketing the region and this event, developing a certificate
program at Jamestown Community College (JCC) and a regional marketing study that evaluates the overall competitive environment for climate technology, coupled with up to ten individual manufacturer studies.
This effort is made possible with a grant from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
